There are some crazy beverages and concoctions out there to be experienced.
I review some of the most interesting and insane beverages from around the world.
Mong Lee Shang Grass Jelly Drink
COUNTRY OF ORIGIN- Taiwan
PRODUCER/MANUFACTURER- DYI Hong Co., Ltd.
REVIEW-
Thick, black, barely carbonated... As I bring the glass up to my nose I think, "Prunes", "Tobacco"... Actually very syrupy sweet black tea/black licorice flavor with a mysterious smokey undertone. Imagine a very light chipotle note, but without any of the heat. The honey is in just the right proportion to everything else and it adds a nice finish. I didn't know what to expect going into this flavor experience, in fact I was a little hesitant at first. I was thinking about DIY Hong Co.'s quality control, or lack of... It's just grass jelly, pure cane sugar, corn starch and honey, but this concoction is as dark as a fever dream and the can was banged up pretty bad. I was happily surprised by the flavor experience. A well thought out beverage, better served room temp. to cool, but not cold. Shake well before serving. The grass jelly chunks are not as bad as they might look in a glass. They sort of remind me of the tapioca 'pearls' in bubbletea, but not the same consistency. Much softer. They just slide down my throat...
